G_ea (ea You know those wretched neighbours of yours who let their miserable dog/cat howl under your window all night or hold loud raucous parties at 3 in the morning (with- out inviting you)? Well, here for anyone with young children, is the solution. Enrol your 3 to 7 year old child in the Violin and Cello course and encour- to practise at 6 a.m. under the next door windows (particularly the morn- ing after that party). These courses for children, and others such as Group Piano, Kodaly and Orff, will be offered through Community Education this fall--you can get in touch through 321 or check out the bro- chure ''Music Instruction for Children on the North Shore.'' * Reflective pause* You know, when the music people asked me to plug their courses 1! don't think this is quite what they had in mind. Oh, well..... Suzuki age them "Ask Alan Smith how his violin playing is going,'! suggested someone. @_ =a @ ea You don't have to teach or take courses in a related subject to be interested in the current situation in the Middle East. If you would like to be more “informed on the subject, though, or perhaps gain a differ- ent point of view, you might consider the credit-free course which will be starting September 23. "Middle East Crisis - the Palestinian View'' will be taught by expert on the Middle East Hannah Kawas_ who is Président of the Canada~Arab Friendship Association and head cf the Palestine Dis- tribution Centre. In nine sessions on Tuesday nights she'li cover the situation thoroughly from it's roots right up to the present. For more information call loc. 321. Fee is $30 unless, of course, you're eligible for a fee waiver. (= @ aa The Montreux Jazz Festival is one of the most famous jazz gatherings in the world and there, appearing on the same bill as jazz great Oscar Peterson, will be three members of - Cap's music department. The three instructors are members of ''Skywalk'! a Vancouver quintet. Tom Keenlyside woodwind, teaches in the university transfer and commercial music programs and Rene Worst, bass and thor Kukurdza, guitar, both teach private Jessons to Commercial Music students. They will be performing on ''Canada Night'' August 30 in Detroit. €_ea @_ = CAP, otherwise known as the Career Alter- natives Program, has sparked the interest of the Ministry of Education and other BC colleges. The program was developed by instructors in the Women's Resource Centre here and is a re-entry program for women who have been primarily family centred but are now looking for alternatives such as further education, community work, or a career. Yetta Lees, who teaches with Carol McCandless and Andrea Kiss in the program, was commissioned to write a report docu- menting the workings of CAP, and she has just finished it. Copies are being sent all over B.C., so perhaps other colleges will be following our example soon.
