a Ce Program seeks community support The Sunshine Coast campus of Capilano College is seeking support from the local business community for a new program designed to get young girls involved in trades. The campus will offer a variety of summer camps throughout July and August, with a trade camp for girls ages 13 to 17 running from July 25 to 29. Participants can expect to have serious fun while being involved in a unique and potentially life-altering experience. “The goal of the summer camp program is to give young girls an opportunity to discover trades and have an enjoyable time doing it,” says program developer Caroline Dépatie. “Statistics show that trades jobs are in high demand, yet only five per cent of trades workers are female.” The cost of sponsoring one girl in the program is $250. The program will run out of the Capilano College trades facility at Trout Lake. This facility has been made available with the support of the Sunshine Coast School District and the Sunshine Coast Alternative School.
