THE INFORMER PAGE 6 NOVEMBER 21, 1990 NOTES Direct Dial Do’s and Don’ts Several College departments can be reached directly and without delay by using direct dial numbers instead of calling the switchboard at 986-1911. Switchboard personnel are unable to take messages or supply specific information so please encourage the use of direct phone numbers. How to translate locals to direct dial numbers: 1) All numbers beginning with 29 translate to 49. For example, 2903 becomes 984-4903. 2) Our new DID numbers begin with 27. A Christmas Play with a Twist A pre-production play promises to present a perfectly pleasurable performance — how’s that for a tongue twister? More than tongues will twist in Thank God It’s Christmas: A Look at Student Life, to be presented by the Capilano College Theatre Program later this month. The Christmas show is a work-in-progress that will evolve into the Theatre Program’s spring production. Based on the writing journals of Capilano College students, the production examines the pressures of campus life. “Some of the scenes are quite funny, but some of them get into serious topics,” said theatre instructor Bill Murdoch. The topics include abortion, religion and politics. Playwrite Peter Eliot Weiss, author of Sex Tips for Modern Girls, has collaborated with the Theatre 200 class to create characters who represent the personality types prevalent in the journals. The format for the Christmas production is similar to a TV talk show—the students talk about the things that make them tick. Afterward, the audience will be invited to discuss what they’ve seen. In directing questions toward the cast, the audience becomes part of the dramatic process and can expect a few surprises, Murdoch said. The performance takes place at 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, Nov. 28 to Dec. 1, at the Capilano College Studio Theatre, R105. Tickets are $4 in advance, $5 at the door. Call 2592 for more information and tickets.
