Squamish Campus Barbara Wepruk joined the Squamish campus in December 1995 as program consultant for Contract Services and Extension Division. Her role is to assess the needs of the community and fill them through appropriate non- credit programming. “The demographics are changing in the Howe Sound Corridor,” she says, “and the people moving into the community are looking to build new industries, such as tourism, for what seems to be a changing economic base. “A concern I have is with the health services field. It has gone through a transition recently and there is a need for something along those lines in Howe Sound — from hospitals to home care to caring for people with disabilities.” Originally from northwestern Ontario, Barbara has lived in Squamish for three years. “I see a lot of potential for past and new citizens in the Corridor,” she says. “There is so much to do in the area and so much that can be done for the people that make it their home. “With the new video conferencing centre, we could do more distance learning, which is the future of education because people’s time for education is changing and we need to reach people in outlying communities.” Inge Oord (left), regional assistant and lab supervisor @nformer
