November 15/96 FACULTY DEVELOPMENT David Jones, Committee Chair FALL GRANT AWARDS The Faculty Development Committee met recently to adjudicate the Fall 1996 applications for conference and research grants. Ten of the twelve applications received were ruled eligible, with one application still pending. Allocations were made based on the criteria in the Faculty Development Handboook, with the usual bugetary maximum of $1000 per individual. A total of $7014 was awarded. The following were awarded oo grants: Terry Brynes (Adult Special Education), $270 to attend a Stephen Covey seminar in Vancouver. Anne Carr (Early Childhood Education), $704 to attend an ECE conference on Children with Special Needs in Phoenix, Arizona, where she will showcase a video which she produced in the "Making Friends" series. The series documents and demonstrates how to design Supported Child Care programs. Casey Dorin (Adult Special Education), $270 to attend a Stephen Covey seminar in Vancouver. Mary Giovanetti-Seward (Applied Business Technology), $1000 to attend the TESOL '97 conference in Orlando, Florida, where she will present a paper on "Content-based ESL programs for Office Workers." Rob McKenzie (Jazz Studies), $900 to attend the International Association of Jazz Educators Conference in Chicago, Ill. Lois Rennie (Early Childhood Education), $900 to attend the conference of the National Association for the Education of Young Children in Dallas TX. Mike Reveley (Jazz Studies), $900 to attend the International Association of Jazz Educators Conference in Chicago, III. Bernd Simpson (Physics), $900 towards the establishment of a Physics Holography Research Laboratory to do ongoing and leading edge research into display holograms. Priscilla Stanbury (Adult Special Education), $270 to attend a Stephen Covey seminar in Vancouver. Duff Sutherland (History), $900 to conduct research for the preparation of an academic paper entitled "We Are Only Loggers: Loggers ~and the’struggie for deveiopment in Newfoundland, 1929-1959." Jan. 30, 1997 - INSTRUCTIONAL SKILLS WORKSHOP: WEEK OF JAN. 6-9. This workshop will be co-facilitated by Jean Clifford and Frank Harris.
