Prof elected Pres Bernardo Berdichewsky, Anthropology prof- essor, has been elected President of the B.C. Chapter of the Canadian Association of Latin American and Caribbean Studies. The Association, which was founded in 1969 is intended to provide opportunities for people engaged in teaching and research in those areas to contact each other and ex- change inofrmation, to foster interest in the area, and to promote closer links be- tween academics in Canada working in Latin America, the Caribbean and related fields. The Association publishes The Canadian Journal of Latin American Studies and a newsletter. Berdichewsky was elected pres- ident at a Feb. 5 meeting at UBC -- other members of the executive are from UBC, VCC, U.Vice and SFU. Says Berdichewsky, "The B.C. Chapter of CALACS want to raise the consciousness of the Canadian people about Latin America and the Third World, and the awareness of the interrelationship between the developed and developing na- tions, and would like to provide reliable information to. the Canadian public about this subject." This exhibition runs until March 18, then from March 19 to April 2 will be an exhibit of tapestries by Norman Rich. More information on that display in the next issue. La Semaine Quebecois ends enthusiastically unable to attend the Breton- Cyr concert at the Playhouse Sunday even- ing missed a great performance by four outstanding artists.
