1969 - 1995 Longtime Employee Hilary Clark Retires S ome of you will remember the early days of Capilano College when the Retail Fashion program, founded by Hilary Clark, opened its doors to the first of many classes of successful graduates. Over the years, Hilary took the program from its initial course design to eventually including yearly field trips to study the fashion industry in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Toronto, Montreal and at West Edmonton Mall. She served nine years on the board of Lions Gate Hospital (three as the first woman chair), was an elected member-at-large of the B.C. Health Association, and a board member of West Vancouver United Church. During this time, Hilary continued her lifelong interest in music by playing the piano, flute and percussion in several local bands and orchestras. Four years ago, Hilary started the Ambleside Orchestra in West Vancouver, fulfilling a presumed need for a daytime orchestra. In retirement, she plans to continue her musical interests and her volunteer work at the West Vancouver Museum. She also plans to travel and spend time with her friends, three sons and one daughter-in-law. — Submitted by Joyce Gee What’s New in the Library Fist, Stick, Knife, Gun:_a Personal History of Violence in America Geoffrey Canada A History of Women in the West: Toward a Cultural Identity in the Twentieth Century (volume 5) Georges Duby and Michelle Perrot, editors Making it Real: the Canonization of English-Canadian Literature Robert Lecker Safe Haven: the Refugee Experience of Five Families Elizabeth McLuhan, editor Who are the People on Welfare?
