Kerouac “On the Road” o-ordinator of the Textile Arts Program at Capilano College, Ruth Scheuing, was the only B.C. winner among this year’s Chalmers Awards recipients. Ruth won the Jean A. Chalmers Award for Crafts for her multimedia textile art. The award carries a $20,000 cash prize. Jury members cited Ruth as “forging new directions for craft through her work which embraces the history and traditions of textiles with a view to the future.” Congratulations, Ruth! The Personnel department is busy working towards the summer slow period. Some recent appointments include: Carmen Orton, as the new divisional assistant in On a Personnel Note Business Administration, replacing Dorothy Webb, who will be retiring June 30. Joan Hollman is a new administration/registration officer in Registration, replacing Hazel Soon, who is taking early retirement in July. Joan is being replaced by Tamara Parizek as the new learning assistant in Social Sciences. Barry Williamson is moving from Biology to Registration to fill the other administration/registration officer position, replacing Cheryl Helm. Cheryl replaced Doreen Cottrell, who retired recently. We are currently recruiting for regular positions of a technician III in Biology, secretary for College Relations, and several Child Care positions. There are also some temporary positions available, including network manager in Computer Services, secretary of International Admissions, supervisor in Accounts Payable, and a computer operator. Some recent departures from the College include Marleen Morris, former director of Public Relations, Zeenat Meghji, former secretary, College Relations, and Sheila Brygadyr, former supervisor, Advising Centre. As a final note, with all the staffing activity going on, we strongly urge employees to arrange with Personnel Services for various tests of skills at your convenience. You don’t have to wait for a competition!
