THE INFORMER PAGE 9 MARCH 31, 1992 People Labour Studies has lost three of its instructors to prestigious positions in their fields. Connie Munro has been appointed Chief Appeal Commissioner of the Workers’ Compensation Board; Paul Petrie is Registrar and Appeal Commissioner of the Workers’ Compensation Board, and Stan Lanyon is Commis- sioner at the Industrial Relations Council. Program coordinator Betty Merrall says: “Labour Studies is wondering if this is enough recognition for the time being? It won’t be easy to find replacements for these accomplished instructors.” Congratulations to Lars Kaario and the Capilano College Singers. Lars conducts the choir, which is one of two in B.C. selected to compete at the national level in the chamber choirs category of a CBC radio competition. The competition finals will be heard on “Choral Concert” on CBC Stereo beginning Sun. April 26, and choirs from all regions will be heard on May 10. The winners will be announced May 17. The College Singers have also been invited to perform for the Kelowna Philharmonic Festival Society’s Summer Festival July 6 - 8. They will earn a $2,000 fee. The busy Lars also just lead a vocal workshop with Phyllis Mailing titled “Your Voice in the Choir” for the B.C. Choral Federation, and he will be conducting the Community Choir and the College Singers in Brahms, A German Requiem in a concert on April 12. (See the calendar for details.) Congratulations to John Pass (Sechelt ABE) whose book of poetry, The Hour’s Acropolis (Harbour 1991) has been short- listed for the B.C. Book awards. The winners will be announced May 9.
