NORTH SHORE NEWS March 10, 1982 page B-4 Capilano shoots down"_ Rugby gets rolling Royal Roads IN WHAT coach Bob Bagshaw called an "awfully one sided" rugby exhibition, Capilano College shot down Royal Roads military academy 40-0 Saturday. Royal Roads, never a strong contender to begin with, was also plagued with several injuries. "Our guys did well," said Bagshaw. "They were really trying ." Forwards Dave Shore and Mike Turnball put in a strong performance. he added. But it was a different story Sunday when a surprise game was called against Meriloma Rugby Club of the Vancouver Rugby Union Junior League. This time it was Capilano who had the injuries, and after a good run for their money, the Blues lost 6-4. "The game was called at the last moment," Bagshaw said. "The whole (league) season·s been put off six weeks because of the weather, and everything was a Ii Ille disorganized. "If I had known about the Sunday game, I would have never had the men play on Saturday." The Blues are newcomers to the Junior League. Up until now, the rugby squad has played in the Totem Conference, the B.C. college league. But recent cuts to the Vancouver Community College and B.C. Institute of T e chnology athletics departments left only four teams in the conference, and the teams decided to play in local rugby leagues instead. Now the only games Capilano plays with other colleges will be strictly exhibition matches . Bagshaw hopes the rugby conference will be able to regroup next year, however. The Blues are now affiliated with the Capilano Rugby Club. Their next match takes place this Sunday at 2:30 p.m. against the Kats in Balaclava Park, Vancouver.
