38 - North Shore News - Sunday, September 2, 2007 • Capilano U. 10,000 people have added their name in support of Capilano becoming a regional university. T hey-include residents from Deep Cove to Mount Currie north of Pemberton to Earl's Cove on the Sunshine Coast. International students from around the world. Businesses. MLAs. School Districts. First Nations. Chambers of Commerce. Mayors and Councils. Community Groups and Associations. We all believe that the time is now to recognize Capilano as a regional university. Capilano has the history, the track record and the region that justifies regional university designation. What difference will this make? • We will be able to provide our students with many more options. • Residents in our distinct and vast region will be able to receive a university education without leaving their home communities. • Our already strong First Nations programs will be enhanced. • As a teaching-intensive regional university, tuition fees will remain lower than traditional research-focused universities, such as UBC and SFU. • Capilano U will continue to develop its international programs, offering students from around the world a university degree and injecting millions of dollars into the local economy. Together we appeal to Murray Coell, Minister of Advanced Education, to recognize that the time is now for Capilano U! Add your support at www.capilanonow.ca .:-I -I I
