November 19/99 Awards and grants available to College employees and students A number of awards and grants programs are being implemented through the International Projects Office and the International Student Centre. British Columbia Centre for International Education (BCCIE) awards Scholars Program Open to B.C. public post-secondary employees. This award is available to instructional and non-instructional faculty members, para-professionals or administrators to visit post-secondary institutions in identified regions in order to teach courses, develop programs and/or curricula, or to carry out other related professional activities (excluding research). Grants are awarded for $2,500 and are intended to be applied towards travel and living expenses. Students Program Open to British Columbia public post-secondary students to permit attendance in a formal and rigorous program of educational study overseas. Grants of $2,500 will be awarded and are to be applied towards travel and living expenses. British Columbia Asia Pacific Students Awards This award will provide scholarships for outstanding British Columbia public post-secondary students to permit attendance in a formal and rigorous program of educational study overseas. Research activities and co-op work terms are not eligible for funding. Grants are awarded for $5,000 and are to be applied towards travel and living expenses. Full-time students with a minimum GPA of 3.2 are eligible for this award. The deadline for all applications is December 1, 1999. Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) sponsored awards These awards, administered by the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) and sponsored by CIDA, provide financial assistance of up to $10,000 to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada who wish to participate in international development through a project of their own initiative. The application deadline is February 1, 2000. More information can be found on CBIE’s Web site at www.cbie.ca. Celanese Canada Internationalist Fellowships These awards are for Canadians to study abroad in order to build their international competence, and to further Canada’s participation in the world economy. Open to all disciplines of study, to university graduates, students in their final year of a degree program, or college graduates holding a recognized bachelor’s degree. The study program may be undertaken anywhere in the world outside Canada and priority will be given to overseas programs. Between 125 and 150 fellowships will be awarded with a value of $10,000.
