Late in the evening of May 20 a group of 25 international students arrived in Vancouver from Paris and Bordeaux, France. As international business students in France, part of their curriculum required them to study abroad. Until this year they had been going to post-secondary institutions in other countries. This is the first time they came to Canada and their purpose was to study international business and e-business at Capilano College. “These students study in English in France, so their English skills were very good,” says Capilano College’s dean of business, Catherine Vertesi. “They were learning in classes that were mixed with Canadian students, so class sizes were kept at about 25.” More online A high-paced taste of western culture A visiting group of 18 high school and college instructors from Shanghai, China spent five weeks at Capilano College this summer taking an intensive English Language Enrichment and Culture program. The focus of their studies was on western teaching methodologies. This was a joint effort between the College’s Continuing Education department and the College’s International Office, headed by John Potts, dean of International Education. The project was initiated by project manager, Allen Zhu, and implemented from inception to completion by College employees, Susan Watson and Geoffrey Bird.
