FOA IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Barking Sphinx Performance Society Presents: Looking Through a Glass Onion A Tribute to John Lennon at the W.I.S.E. Hall 1 882 Adanac Street 9 p.m. Friday, December 8, 2000 Tickets: Advance $16 / $12 students and seniors At the door $18 / $14 students and seniors Information and tickets: 683-8240 On December 8th, 2000, the twentieth anniversary of John Lennon's death, we celebrate life and art through the words and music of this great musician, songwriter, ex-Beatie, satirist, moldy man, and twentieth century icon in a concert featuring Talking Pictures (Ron Samworth - guitar, Bill Clark - trumpet, Peggy Lee - cello, and Dylan van der Schyff - drums) under the direction of Ron Samworth. Guest artists include Elizabeth Fischer, Thomas Anfield, Paul Plimley, Tony Wilson, Julie McGeer, Coat Cooke and Kate Hammett-Vaughan. The program will be comprised of original compositions and idiosyncratic arrangements by Ron Samworth, Tony Wilson, Bill Clark, Thomas Anfield, Paul Plimley, Coat Cooke and Peggy Lee. The show, which will weave music, text, and images into an unusual and highly personal interpretation of John Lennon's work, will be strongly situated in the experiences and impressions of these Canadian artists, all of whom have been moved and inspired by Lennon's spirit and creativity. The show will take place at the \NISE Hail, a venue perfectly suited for this program, and will be an informal cabaret style concert with beer. The event promises to be a wonder of low-tech invention (hey, Sgt. Pepper's was recorded on a fourtrack!), the primary focus of which will be the music with video and still images projected behind the ensemble and a live performance element combining action painting and butoh dance provided by Thomas Anfield.
