Commonwealth of Learning/

Government of BC Fellowships Programme
Desk-Top Publishing Programme

The Commonwealth of Learning in cooperation with the
Government of BC has sponsored Study Fellowships
Programmes over the last four years. During the latest
Programme, eight educators from developing Commonwealth
countries visited various institutes in the Province with a view to
strengthening distance education in their home countries. Two
years ago the visiting Fellowship Programmes were expanded to
include local personnel through the provision of Fellowships to
eight BC educators who travelled to developing Commonwealth
countries and provided advice and guidance in various aspects of
distance education and last year eight more educators each
visited a different developing country to provide similar
assistance.

This year the Commonwealth of Learning, in cooperation with
the Government of BC is sponsoring five Fellowships to carry
out training activities in the area of Desk-Top Publishing in a
number of developing countries. While the primary task is to
provide training in desk-top publishing, you may be required to
assist with other aspects of distance education as well.

The developing Commonwealth countries requiring the training
are: Brunei Darussalam, Guyana, India, Malawi, Nigeria, Saint
Lucia, Solomon Islands and Sri Lanka. Five of these countries
will receive training through the 1992/93 Programme.

On IBM compatible equipment and laser printers with either
Pagemaker or Ventura Publisher the successful nominees will be
expected to carry out workshops on desk-top publishing.
Depending on the location, the specifics of the workshops will
vary from two or three one-week workshops targeted at small
groups of professionals or semi-professionals to individual
tutorial or very small group instruction. It will be necessary to
be able to instruct from elementary to advanced desk-top
publishing skills with the possible inclusion of instruction on
page-layout and document design as separate topics or integrated
into the desk-top publishing workshops. It may also be
necessary in all cases to provide instruction in basic computer
literacy.

The application deadline is January 15 and additional
information on the application procedure may be obtained by
contacting me on local 2364.
