October 18/96 The Coffee Connection a he Business Administration Department (BADM) at Capilano College has launched a new strategy for first-year students called The Connection Card Plan. The idea was spearheaded by faculty members Dave O’Leary and Marilyn Taylor from a professional development workshop called the Attention/Retention Challenge. A team of instructors personally call up a list of first-year BADM students, see how they are doing during the semester, and invite them in to pick up their Connection Card. The card is good for a minimum of two coffees per semester with the faculty advisor. So far, students seem delighted with the personal attention. It’s a great way of telling them that we care how they are doing! Submitted by Marilyn Taylor Vancouver.
