MP recognizes College programs Submitted by Amber Ballard, APMCP associate The Honourable Stephen Owen, secretary of state for Western Economic Diversification (WD) and Indian Affairs and Northern Development, drew a diverse crowd January 9 to Vancouver's Four Seasons Hotel. In front of an audience that included Asian Pacific Management Co-op Program (APMCP) associates, McRae Institute of International Management faculty, as well as academic, corporate and political representatives, the member of Parliament emphasized the attributes of WD's export-oriented programs. These, he said, have been shaped to assist Canadian organizations to enter and expand into international markets. Both the secretary of state and the College’s Dr. Bill Gibson, vice president of Academic Affairs, complimented local organizations and academic institutions, such as Capilano College, on building long-lasting networks and goodwill between Canadian and Asian countries. Full story online Capilano College turns 35 Lecture on First Nations women Dr. Loraine Littlefield, research coordinator with the Snuneymuxw First Nations on Vancouver Island, will be a guest lecturer for the Capilano College Women’s Studies department on Tuesday, March 4. An Introduction to the History of First Nations Women is part of the Hon. Thomas A. Dohm, Q.C. lecture series. The free event will be held from 7:30-9 p.m. in the Birch building, room 204. Dr. Littlefield is a PhD graduate from the University of British Columbia. Her major interest is in First Nations women’s history and in particular the role of women in traditional economies. In her early work she examined the historical accounts of early explorers and traders that documented the role of women traders on the Northwest Coast.
