BREATHTAKI NGLY Wednesday night is the official opening of the Downtown Education Centre. For anyone who hasn't heard about it, the Centre is a joint venture of SFU, BCIT and Cap. The basic idea is that many people in’ our areas work downtown and this centre will enable us to reach business people conven- iently. Dan Dolphin, head of Training for Business and industry down here at Premier Street, will be moving to the new loca- tion in February--the seventh floor of 549 Howe St. TFBI will be offering their usual courses and as well, Community Ed. will be using the location for a variety of credit free offerings. Ca | _} The Chairman & members of the College Board are inviting students, staff, faculty and administrators to meet informally with them to discuss matters of college concern "in a casual setting."' If you are inter- ested, go to the All College Lounge at 3:00 - 5 pm and participate. There will be caffeine fixes provided. Ca | The Capilano Symphony Orchestra is still looking for string players to come and re- hearse Tuesday nights. There is no charge for joining the orchestra unless players wish to register for Music 150-2. On the program planned for the Spring Concert is Sibelius Symphony #1, Glazunov Saxophone Concerto, & Robert Fleming ''4 Fantasias on Canadian Folk Themes'' and ''3 Contrasts." If this grabs you, or you know of someone who would like the opportunity to play in an orchestra, call the music department. Kar] Kobylansky will be glad to hear from you. - Ronald Reagan. Happy January 20. EXCITING * ‘NEWS Have you converted? No, not to religion-- to metric. If not, you may be interested in a series of Metric workshops which wil] be held on campus in the afternoons for the benefit of all the unenlightened sorts around here. The course outline is as fol- lows: ''The purpose of the workshop is to familiarize the consumer with the ration- ale behind the conversion to FI and the main units used in every day living. There will be a brief review of imperial mea- surements, of the metric from the French Revolution and metric as it is found in the world today. There will be a few exer- cises which will be completed to show the ease with which metric is used. With sup- plied equipment the participants will make measurements in metric for daily use in the marketplace.'' All of which leaves me with one question -- what is FI? (French Insanity? ****ing Inconvenience?) Pamela Salusbury will take the first two sessions and the instructor for the third hasn't yet been determined.
