Campus is idle free The idle free campaign, held January 12 at the North Vancouver campus, was a successful first step in helping to raise awareness about the consequences of idling engines. Students Jessica Windle, a first-year student in Tourism Management, won a single-zone adult monthly Translink pass and Rachel White, a second-year Geography student, won the Translink mug. Signs have been posted in specific areas on campus to inform drivers that they are in an idle free zone. B-ball finals come to College Submitted by Milt Williams Capilano College will host the 2005 B.C. Colleges’ Athletics Association (BCCAA) men’s and women’s provincial basketball finals on March 3-5 in the Sportsplex. This will be the first time that the College has hosted the basketball tourney. The B.C. championships will bring the top six men and women’s collegiate basketball teams in the province into the tournament. These 12 teams will compete for the provincial college championship and the right to represent the province at the national champion- ship a week later at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in Alberta. Capilano College is battling to make it to the playoffs, as both the men’s and women’s teams are in fifth and sixth place in the BCCAA. Full details online Uje Family members of former Canadian military corporal ‘| Brant Bordewick Campioni have established a permanent award Jolene Bordewick with the Capilano College Foundation in memory of their nephew, son and husband. Brant was a 34-year-old DHL cargo airline pilot from North Vancouver who was tragically killed in a mid-air collision between his cargo jet and a Russian airliner carrying students to a summer vacation in Spain. The crash, which killed 71 people, occurred over Uberlingen, Germany on July 1, 2002. Evidence suggested that the Russian airliner was misdirected by Swiss Air Traffic Control, which caused the Bashkirian Airlines jet to dive into the tail of the DHL plane. A crash-site memorial has been established in Germany as Brant’s plane diverted to avoid crashing into the German community below. The Brant Bordewick Campioni Award for Performance Excellence will be presented to musical theatre students in the spring of their second year.
