FALLING DOWN SOUND
CHOREOGRAPHED
BYAYELEN
LIBERONA
WESTERNCANADIANPREMIERE

FallingDownSound,is a piece inspired by the magic of creation, drawing attention
to the details of life, the fabric of our existence.
It is about surrendering to the sensations of sound, sight and gravity. One hears
the resonating sound of strings echoing through the park. Two creatures are
suspended from the branch of a tree by fabric that breathes like a liquid sculpture.
The creatures awaken responding to the song of the strings and explore the
sensation of movement. The relationship evolves between the creatures as they
discover their fears and test their limits. They communicate through the fabric
that connects them, the vibrations that resonates within them and the mysterious
sounds that seduce them. Tugging, pulling, twisting and turning, the creatures
tangle and untangle as they fall through their journey through the fabric of sound
and surrendering to the mysteries of life.

This duet uses myths from Ovid as its point of departure including those of
Narcissus and Echo, Peleus and The tis, Venus and Adonis and Ariadne and the
Minotaur. The elements of these stories including pursuit, capture, entrapment,
conflict, curse and transformation have been extracted from their contexts and
then recombined to portray the difficulties of a contemporary couple caught in
a dysfunctional relationship.
