The NOW (New Orchestra Workshop) Society also emerged from these regular sessions. Karl Berger held a workshop at the Western Front, organized by the C.O.R.D. group around this time, according to Lisle Ellis. He wrote: "Basically, NOW was the original quintet, (Paul Cram, Ralph Eppel, Paul Plimley, Gregg Simpson, and Lisle Ellis) which served as the core of CORD. Concurrently, there were several small ensembles comprised mostly of CORD members and occasionally some musicians more on the periphery of NOW. For example, there was a string quartet that played in CORD, but also worked independently of the orchestra; but always under the NOW banner." Karl Berger's second workshop with the core members of the ensemble, included many of these additional players and attracted a lot of attention in Vancouver.
